There are a lot of treatment options to improve the quality of life for a child born with cerebral palsy. None of them are cures. The most common is going to be consistent lifelong therapy, both physical therapy for the large muscles and occupational therapy for the small muscles, fine motor skills, holding a pencil, typing on the keyboard, the grip, and things such as that. Speech therapy is often needed for a child with cerebral palsy as well, because the same muscle issues that affect the limbs will affect the speech muscles. In addition to that, there are some surgeries where tendons can be cut; it’s called a tendon release so that there are not contractures and stiffening of the limbs. Also, Botox injections are quite common. Those are temporary reliefs, but they do provide some level of assistance and they keep contractures from becoming permanent.
