We had the honor of representing a young man in his early 20s who was having some difficulty breathing and some chest pain. He went to Westside Regional Medical Center, and ultimately they determined that he needed what’s called an internal defibrillator installed. He kept going back after it was done, complaining of pretty significant pain and multiple visits back, and ultimately they determined that it had been installed improperly and placed improperly, which led to some pretty catastrophic heart and lung injury to this young man, which is going to affect his life expectancy and his quality of life—something he’s going to live with for the rest of his life, however long that may be.
One of the things that we’re proud of is that we have the resources, we have the skills, and we have the experts available to handle the most complex medical malpractice cases. In this case, it required a lot of due diligence in terms of understanding the medicine, understanding what happened, and ultimately determining why it was done that way and what should have been done. At the same time, we understanding how this was going to affect this young man’s life.
While we can handle what some people might consider straightforward medical malpractice cases—and we’re obviously very skilled at doing that—one of the things that we’re very proud of is that we’re able to handle the most complex cases. Whether it’s nurses, doctors, or the highest, most well-credentialed neurosurgeons, it doesn’t really matter. At our firm, we know that we’re able to take on the most complex cases, no matter how much time and energy it might require.
