HCA Kendall Regional Medical Center is a level one trauma center based in Kendall, or the southern portion of Miami, Florida. Our firm has had many, many cases against Kendall Regional Medical Center. They are owned by HCA, which is one of the largest hospital-based corporations in the United States. We’ve specifically had a number of birth trauma cases against Kendall Regional Medical Center, some involving shoulder dystocia, some involving the failure to manage a hypertensive crisis.
For instance, we had a case involving a 42-year-old woman who had presented to Kendall Regional after she had a planned cesarean section. She presented emergently, and we alleged that the hospital failed to timely treat her hypertensive crisis. She unfortunately suffered a massive stroke and was left in what’s called a minimally conscious state. So, she was severely disabled and required full-time attendant care. That case went to a voluntary binding arbitration, and we received an award of $15.3 million against Kendall Regional, and we felt that that was a very fair award considering the circumstances of the case.
